A freshly made Gyudon.
In July 2020, Gyudon bowl chain restaurant "Sukiya" used a food truck to liven up an event to support the children belonging to the mini-basketball team "S☆CLUB" in Aomori Prefecture.
Due to the requests for self-isolation and school closures in response to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, many mini-basketball matches in which children were scheduled to participate have been canceled.
After the state of emergency was lifted, we resumed training while taking preventative measures, but there were no competitions to motivate us to train.
Amidst this situation, "S☆CLUB," which decided to hold an event (practice match) to keep the children motivated, approached Sukiya asking for their help in creating a lively atmosphere.
Therefore, Sukiya Northern Japan branch * decided to deploy a food truck as a way to contribute to the community, with the hope that "children can get some exercise and fill their stomachs with freshly made Gyudon," and will provide freshly made Gyudon to children after their games.
In addition to alcohol disinfection, employees of Sukiya North Japan branch, wearing masks and face shields, headed to the event venue with their food truck on the day of the event.
The event was held with thorough measures in place, including temperature checks and alcohol disinfection for children and their guardians.
After the match, the winning team received a "donburi" (rice bowl) used in Sukiya restaurants, and the MVP winner received a "golden donburi" as a prize.
In addition, we presented all the children with a "Sukipass," which can be used at Sukiya restaurants, as a token of their hard work.
After energetically moving around and working up a huge appetite, the children devoured their Gyudon and shared their thoughts with beaming smiles, saying things like, "I was so hungry, so it was really delicious," and "It was great to play with everyone. It had been a while since our last match, so I was really happy to be able to play."
The representative of "S☆CLUB" expressed their gratitude, saying, "Having Sukiya come to us allowed us to move forward in a positive and forward-looking manner, and the children were very happy."
Sukiya will continue to strive to create restaurants that are loved by local customers.
