Zensho Group is expanding its Gyudon bowl chain "Sukiya" globally, and as of the end of December 2020, it has opened 623 Sukiya overseas.
In January 2021, Zensho Vietnam, which operates 16 Sukiya restaurants in Vietnam, received a request from a Japanese school to conduct a vocational training program as a form of community service for Japanese junior high school students living in Vietnam.
This work experience program aims to foster appropriate work ethics and attitudes through actual work experience, to help students understand the jobs of those around them, to develop independence, cooperation, and social skills, and to deepen international understanding by reaffirming the relationship between Vietnam and Japan.
On the day of the work experience program, the COO of Zensho Vietnam explained, "Through this work experience program, we hope that you will gain an understanding of the importance of work, raise your awareness of occupations, deepen your understanding of the relationship between Vietnam and Japan, and deepen your international understanding."
At the store, I observed actual customer service and learned about operations from Vietnamese employees.
The training begins with hygienic handwashing, essential for providing safe and delicious food, followed by practice of customer service phrases and product preparation, before moving on to serving actual customers who visit the store.
Despite feeling nervous, I was able to serve customers cheerfully with the support of my colleagues.
After the work experience program, students shared comments such as, "I was surprised not only by the speed of the operations but also by the meticulousness of each task," "It was difficult to serve every customer entering and leaving the store," and "I was impressed by the staff's actions."
Gyudon bowl, which has become an indispensable national dish for Japanese people, has not only become popular domestically but has also grown to become a beloved food for people overseas.
Sukiya will continue to provide safe and delicious food at affordable prices around the world.
