Fill your stomach with a warm Gyudon
In April 2021, the Gyudon chain restaurant "Sukiya" provided support to a "children's cafeteria."
One Seed Poketto*, an organization active mainly in Adachi-ku, Tokyo, consulted with us at Sukiya, saying that they want children to eat a full hot meal even though their children's cafeteria cannot operate due to the spread of the new type of coronavirus infection.
*Organization that operates a children's cafeteria and creates a place for children to stay, mainly in Adachi-ku, Tokyo.
Sukiya, which supported the initiative, sent a food truck as a form of community service, hoping to fill people's stomachs with freshly made Gyudon. They provided approximately 200 sets of Gyudon bowls, pork miso Pork Miso Soup, and pickles *, mainly to children from single-parent families.
*Cut apples will be added for children under elementary school age.
On the day of the event, the arrival of the food truck elicited cries of surprise and delight from the adults who had been preparing and the children who had been waiting to receive their orders, with exclamations such as, "Wow!" and "It's so big!"
The children smiled as they received their Gyudon, saying, "We were surprised by how big the food truck is. We can't wait to eat it when we get home."
We received a message of gratitude from "One Seed Pocket," who said, "Many children were delighted. Thank you very much."
The employee in charge of Adachi Ward, who was in charge of this initiative, commented, "Seeing the smiles on the faces of the customers who received Gyudon we made made me feel that it was all worthwhile."
Sukiya will continue to create restaurants that are rooted in the community and loved by our customers.
