In July 2024, Tolona Japan participated in the "Noto Reconstruction Festival" held in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and provided pizza.
The "Noto Reconstruction Festival" was an event organized by Peace Winds Japan, a non-profit organization with which Zensho has partnered in disaster relief efforts.
The event was held at "Suzu Horse Park," which is close to the planned construction site for temporary housing, with the aim of creating a central hub for community building among disaster victims.
Tolona Japan, a food manufacturer under Zensho and a long-time seller of pizza products, began providing pizza to the areas affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake with the hope that "those affected by the disaster can gather around pizza and enjoy communicating with each other."
Following our participation in providing freshly baked pizzas at an evacuation center in Suzu City in June 2024, we took part in this event.
On the day of the event, the members of Tolona Japan loaded ingredients and a pizza oven into their car and headed to Suzu City.
We made our way to the venue, walking through a town where collapsed houses and traces of uplift and sinkholes still remained.
Upon arriving at the venue, the members of Tolona Japan turned on the power and ovens, and began baking pizzas one after another right there.
As soon as pizza service began, a long line formed.
While communicating with the people in line, I placed fried shrimp on freshly baked Margherita pizzas and handed them out to each person individually.
The pizza distribution was a great success, with approximately 180 servings distributed to people of all ages, from children to adults.
One customer who received the pizza said, "Supermarkets are operating on reduced hours, and the variety of products is limited, so sometimes I can't buy what I want. My two children love pizza, so I came to get some. I'm so grateful."
Pizza is a popular meal enjoyed by people gathering together.
Tolona Japan will continue to contribute to local communities through products that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
