Bringing the joy of continuous learning to children [Nepal]

Zensho implemented emergency reconstruction support in the areas affected by the 2015 Nepal earthquake. Through this support activity, they met people living with social problems such as the outflow of workers, and began to think about what they could do for them. They concluded that revitalizing local industries was necessary to solve these problems, and partnered with a farmer who runs an organic farm in a mountainous area, which is said to have a more difficult economic situation than urban areas, to start a fair trade tea business.

In December 2015, the "Zensho Scholarship Project," funded by social development costs, was launched. As of 2018, these non-repayable scholarships have been provided to 351 children of farm workers, ranging from first to tenth grade.

Although Nepal has a compulsory education system, some children are forced to give up attending school or advancing to the next grade because they cannot afford school registration fees or the purchase of school supplies. This scholarship encourages children who have told us they want to become nurses or veterinarians, helping each individual realize their dreams. The schools these children attend are filled with a strong desire to learn.

Zensho will continue to implement initiatives that contribute to the revitalization of local industries, including support for children.
